Homeless Ministry
Ministries
Welcome to the first installment in our Ministry Spotlight series. For the inaugural entry, we're going to focus on the Homeless Ministry. Led by Bro. Dewayne Johnson, the ministry is dedicated to helping the less fortunate, and bringing them both physical and spiritual comfort, guided by Mathew 25, 35-45.
Every 2nd Friday night, the ministry members gather to prepare the food and clothes. They also take the opportunity to fellowship, pray, and unify. The next morning they meet again and head to downtown Seattle where they distribute the donations.
We interviewed Bro. Dewayne for this feature, and here's what he had to say:
How long have you been with the Homeless Ministry?
"I've been with the homeless ministry for about a year and the evangelism department for a bit longer than that. I was Sister Princess' assistant in the evangelism department when she asked me to head the Homeless Ministry. I prayed about it, felt led to do it, and took her up on the offer. I've always had a heart for the homeless, those who are less fortunate."
What's your favorite thing about the ministry?
"Well definitely showing the love of Christ according to the Word to those who are less fortunate. Bottom line, for whatever reason you're out there, you need to feel that someone cares, that someone loves you. It doesn't matter what they look like, what they smell like, you're just loving. It's the best part of the whole ministry!"
How can someone get involved?
"On the evangelism board, there's a flyer with a name and phone number. Get in touch with me and I'll set up a meeting with you to chat and find out where you stand. We want to make sure everyone in the ministry is committed to God, and to the homeless."
Editors note: You can also request to join the homeless ministry in the community section of the website.
How else can someone help?
"We always need help. It canbe in the form of monetary donations, living essentials such as clothes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap etc. It's also important that people realize that this is a CONTINUAL need. When we have clothing drives, the donations come rolling in, but when it's over, people are still in need. Donations are ALWAYS welcome!"
Thanks for reading the first installment of the Ministry Spotlight!
